‘Second Gold Award Ceremony’
At the Residence of British High Commissioner
For the Second time in Bangladesh, Gold Award Ceremony of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DEA), an international Award which opens an opportunity to discover one self’s hidden abilities and gain a special sense of satisfaction and achievement, was held in September 22 at the residence of British High Commissioner. This year Award went to 55 students, who successfully accomplished all required activities of Gold Level, the ultimate section of three levels of the DEA, from University of Dhaka (DU), Bangladesh International Tutorial (BIT) and Maple Leaf International School MLIS). Earlier on 09 September 2013, the going-to-be Gold Awardees had to be evaluated by facing a validation committee to get green card for the Gold Award Ceremony.
Being host, HRH Robert W Gibson, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, arranged this programme which became a meeting place of salient personalities. The Ceremony was lively with the presence of Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani, Managing Director, M M Ispahani Limited, Jim McCabe, CEO, Standard Chartered Ban, Bangladesh, Mr. AzizulHuq, Managing Director, GlaxoSmithKline Bangladesh, Mr. A K Shamsuddin Khan, Chairman, A K Khan Group, Mr. Sayeeful Islam, Managing Director, Concord Garments Group, Mr. Benzamin De Costa, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Notre Dame University, Professor Ahmed Shafee, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of East West University, Mr. Athar Ali, former National Cricketer, Professor Dr. K M Shariful Huda, National Director of DEA Foundation, DEA’s Executive Committee Members, Ms. Lubna Chowdhury, Principal of Bangladesh International School (BIT), including many heads of institutions and Teachers.
The 2nd Gold Award Presentation ceremony was unveiled on sharp six pm. The program was started with a short introduction on DEA and DEA Foundation, Bangladesh by MC.
Professor Dr. K M Shariful Huda, The new National Director of DEA Foundation, came to light through his opening welcome speech where he thanked to all, briefly disseminated the advantages of this program and unveiled his future progress plan on DEA.
Honorable Chairman, Trustee Board of DEA Foundation, Bangladesh Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani, made a speech on DEA. He stated ‘The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme enhance students ability and scopes. It should be open to the students as many as possible.’
In his valuable speech HRH Robert W Gibson mentioned “Since the programme helps students to have holistic development, it should be spread through all over the country and to all walks of youths.”
The ceremony started by giving away certificates to the students of BIT. They were 42 in number. Then 08 students from Maple Leaf International School received their certificates. Finally, Award went to the students of University of Dhaka. This time 5 students received their Certificates.
As recognition, the institutions of Gold Awardees were acknowledged by giving crests. As Honorable vice-chancellor was absent, Prof. Dr. M Manjurul Karim received the crest for University of Dhaka. On the other hand, Ms, Lubna Chowdhury accepted the Crest for BIT and Mr. Ali Mohammad Al-Shams got for Maple Leaf International School. Before closing the programme a photography session was carried on.
Mr. AzizulHuq gave vote of thanks before closing the Programme.
The programme was a success which leads the DEA officials to their next grand programme DEA Night.
