For the third time in Bangladesh the certificate confer ceremony of the Gold Award of The Duke of International Edinburgh’s Award which opens an opportunity to the youth of age group 14-24 to discover one self’s hidden abilities and gains a special sense of satisfaction and achievement, was held on June 1, 2015 at the residence of British High Commissioner to Bangladesh. This year Gold Award went to 177 Awardees of BUET, Jahangirnagar University, University of Dhaka, Independent University Bangladesh, American International University Bangladesh, Bangladesh International Tutorial, Maple Leaf International School, The Aga Khan School Dhaka, Scholastica and Ispahani Public School and College-Chittagong who successfully accomplished all the required activities of Gold Level after completing previous two levels, Bronze & Silver. Earlier on September 1 the awardees had to face validation session where they were evaluated to get green card for the Gold Award.
HE Robert W Gibson, British High Commissioner hosted the ceremony which was lively with the presence of members of the Board of Trustees of DEA Bangladesh Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani, Managing Director, M. M. Ispahani Limited, Mr. Abrar A Anwer, CEO, Standard Chartered b, Mr. Azizul Huq, Managing Director, GlaxoSmithKline Bangladesh, Mr. A K Shamsuddin Khan, Chairman, A K Khan Group and Mr. Sayeeful Islam, Managing Director, Concord Garments Group along with the National Director. And also the members of the Executive Committee Mr. Rizwan Bin Farouq, Ms. Shereen Mahmood Ispahani, Mr. Kazal Kanti Debnath, Ms. Bitopy Das Chowdhury, Prof. M Manjurul Karim, and Ms. Rumana Ahmed were present there. Besides awardees many other Heads of the institutions and teachers attended the ceremony.
The ceremony was started with the welcome speech from the National Director, Professor Dr. K M Shariful Huda. He unveiled the future plans of DEA Bangladesh chapter and said “the Award encourages self-improvement alongside the notion of being a responsive and engaged member of the community – of using one’s skill and talent for the greater good of our society. And this last point is one that I would like all recipients to take with them from today and to practice till death.”
Then the chairman of the Executive Committee of The DEA Bangladesh Mr. Rizwan Bin Farouq gave a motivational speech “it’s very hard to achieve the Gold Award especially through a harder evaluation session. So this Award goes to the most deserving candidates and they will be obviously benefitted in their future carrier”. Two awardees on behalf of all shared their experiences at that moment. Mr. Abrar A Anwer, Treasurer of the Board of Trustees wished “as its recipients, you have joined to an exemplary group of people who have demonstrated that they are ready to reach for the highest. That they are focused to succeed great, inspired to dream biggest, dedicated to serve noble.” Then after, Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani, Chairman, Board of Trustees said “successfully we have got the Full License for six years, and we are the best practitioner in our region out of four countries and as well in positioning status we are in number four out of the nine full licensees over the world”. The chief guest, HE Robert W Gibson afterward raised his satisfaction over it and wished the awardees for their further betterment; and mentioned “as a new member Bangladesh has already covered 56 educational institutions under The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme.” After the speech HE Robert W Gibson handed over the certificates to the gold awardees. At the end of giving certificates, a Crest was given to HE Robert W Gibson by Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani. And finally, the ceremony ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Azizul Huq, Secretary of the Board of Trustee.
